Supporting Wellbeing aims to provide tools and resources for people who deliver land-based programming that will better prepare them to mitigate and respond to mental health challenges on the land.
This training is designed for people who have some level of experience in planning and delivering on the land programs, but who have little-to-no formal or clinical training in mental health support.

Supporting Wellbeing Training

Time: 30 hours

Supporting Wellbeing provides tools and resources to prepare people who deliver on the land programming to mitigate and respond to mental health challenges while on the land using a trauma-informed approach.

This training is designed for Northern people who have some level of experience in planning and delivering on the land programs, but who have little-to-no formal mental health training. Learners will be introduced to several topics to consider when planning and delivering trauma-informed on the land programs, including intergenerational trauma, suicide intervention, conflict resolution, and participant aftercare.

The training has countless benefits for participants and communities:

  • More access to culturally relevant, trauma-informed on the land training programs in the North
  • Enhanced wellbeing of Northern residents
  • Revitalization of connection to Indigenous culture
  • Increased capacity of community members to support own and others mental wellbeing
  • Decreased stigma of the use of mental health supports

    Modules

    Supporting Wellbeing training is made up of six modules that can be delivered in various combinations depending on the needs and scheduling of the group accessing the training. Training modules cover the following topics:

    1. Creating Community (3.5 hours)
    2. Setting up Camp for Wellbeing (3.5 hours)
    3. Intergenerational Trauma & Resiliency (6 hours)
    4. Conflict Resolution & Communication Skills (5 hours)
    5. Suicide Prevention & Intervention (6 hours)
    6. Supporting Wellbeing When the Program Ends (4 hours)

    Ratios

    • 2 facilitators : 1 emotional support : 12 participants
    • The maximum number of participants is 12 and the suggested minimum is 3
    • Minimum 1 emotional support person
    • Minimum 2 facilitators always
